This route is the first of three that were to comprise stage 6 of the ill-fated 2020 Tour de Suisse. Not to happen in the real world, and to be ridden out in garages around the world on Rouvy instead.
Starting at the village of Fiesch, the route climbs out into the Swiss countryside, initially on route 19, before later turning on to route 413 prior to the main climb. The first couple of km the route climbs steeply before levelling through the villages of Steinhaus, Blitzingen, Ritzingen, Reckingen, Geschinen and Ulrichen. Here, at the halfway point, the route turns on to the main climb, sandwiched between the Mittaghorn to the North and Teltschehorn and Nufenstock to the South. The route tops out at Restaurant Nufenen-Passhohe, before descending rapidly towards Airolo.
Like all Rouvy augmented routes, this route is beautifully filmed. The picture is stable with resolution available to 1080p. Similar to other routes it also suffers a little from filming speed exceeding ride speed, though rarely is this noticeable.
Like most Switzerland rides the combination of tall snow capped alpine peaks, lush green meadows, and steep walls make for stupendously sublime scenery. Let down slightly by the weather in this video which suffers from grey skies at the outset, which clear to provide blue skies with light clouds as the route climbs.
This is a tough route, with much climb - and our legs certainly knew about it afterwards!
