    ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ“ท Birmingham New Street Station

Growing up in Walsall, Birmingham New Street was the gateway to the rest of the world. Arriving at the station bridge, I remember being greeted by a Burger King, and the escalators out of the dungeon below, into the dungeon that was the Pallisades shopping centre. Only brightened by the presence of an Electronics Boutique at the top of the ramp down to McDonalds. How it has changed, the Pallisades replaced by the large open expanse that is Grand Central.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Burnley 1 West Ham United 2

Burnley took on West Ham United today at Turf Moor Burnley. Read on for a summary of the match, and photographs. I’m going to keep this article short. This is the third really good Burnley performance on the bounce, and all three of those games have ended in no points. So while we are rapidly improving, that is not translating into points, and it is frustrating to see supposedly ‘weaker’ sides picking up points against the same opposition - Luton getting a cracking result against Crystal Palace today.

    ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ปAppAcademy - Day 01 - HTML Forms

Talking about my learning to code, and completing the HTML Forms unit of the Intermediate HTML & CSS module of the AppAcademy Open curriculum. One of my barriers as a developer is iterating between different learning routes, without finishing, and heading back to the beginning. With the exception of the python based software engineering bootcamp that I completed with HyperionDev a year ago, I’ve really failed to kick on and build on that.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Arsenal 3 Burnley 1

Photographs and match review from Arsenal v Burnley at the Emirates Stadium. Travelling down to London on the supporters club coach, the day had an early start, walking through a moonlit Burnley for an 06:20 departure opposite Queensgate depot. The journey down was quite uninterrupted and pleasant until we arrived at Norton Canes services on the M6 Toll. Instantly realising that every coach in the North was making its way to London today.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Burnley 0 Crystal Palace 2

Photographs and match review from Burnley v Crystal Palace, 4th November 2023. After a month on the road, we returned to Turf Moor today, the opponents Crystal Palace. Before that though, I had the small matter of a first visitation of my mother to Burnley. Meeting her in town, we walked back up to Banny’s on Manchester Road for lunch, and for her ride home. Heading back into Burnley, the drizzle began, and it would continue throughout the afternoon.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Everton 3 Burnley 0

Everton v Burnley at Goodison Park, Liverpool on 1 November 2023. Leaving Burnley at 1620, I caught the supporters club coach at Queensgate. Sadly too late in the day for Milltown Pies to be open. We arrived outside Stanley Park about an hour before kick-off, picking up a program on the walk into Goodison Park. At ยฃ4, this is the most expensive program Iโ€™ve bought so far this season. The ground is a proper old football ground, with old school food kiosks, and a wooden stand.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Brentford 3 Burnley 0

A day out by rail to watch Burnley lose 0 -3 at Brentford in the Gtech / Brentford Community Stadium. I could not get a place on the supporters coach today, so headed down to London on the train. Despite the disruption from Storm Babet, the trains worked flawlessly in both directions. I even managed to get an earlier train due to the advance cancellation of mine. So strictly the weather made me an hour faster, and the travel was about 3h lighter in each direction for getting train rather than coach.

    โšฝ๏ธ Burnley 1 Chelsea 4

Photographs from Burnley v Chelsea on 7 October 2023. Burnley probably had the better of the first half, and would have deserved to take the lead in to half time had they not been pegged back by a freak deflection off Ameen Al-Dakhil. We have been put ahead by Wilson Odobert, finishing neatly across the goal from a Foster assist. The least said about the second half, probably the better. Shortly after the break Vitinho brought down Sterling who was probably going nowhere, giving Chelsea a penalty from which they never looked back.

    โšฝ๏ธ Newcastle United 2 Burnley 0

Photographs from the game today. Burnley had chances, could and should have scored at either end of the game. Between those two spells, they did not really look in the game. Authors of their own misfortune again. Though Ramsay appeared to be fouled in the build up to Almironโ€™s screamer, not reviewed by VAR - he gave the ball away far too much today. The second half penalty was a really poor penalty to give away - would have been better keeping tight and forcing a much more difficult cross / shot.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท Burnley 0 Manchester United 1

Given Manchester United’s midweek participation in the Champions League, this game took place in the somewhat novel / unusual 8pm slot on Saturday evening. This was a really strong Burnley performance. Every performance looks much better than the last, the defence looks much more solid, and but for Onana in goal, and his far post, Burnley would have left this game with at least a point. The stats below speak for themselves, Burnley dominated possession and had an even share of the chances.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ท The Rose Bowl (Ageas Bowl)

Concluding a poignant visit to the south coast yesterday, at the Ageas Bowl. In almost 20 years of visiting Eastleigh, i had not been here before. The Ageas Bowl is the home of Hampshire Cricket Club, a striking conference venue near Eastleigh and Southampton, and holds a Hilton Hotel within its concourse. #groundHopping The Rose Bowl The Rose Bowl The Rose Bowl - Rainbow The Rose Bowl - Rainbow The Rose Bowl - Rainbow The Rose Bowl - Vickie

    โšฝ๏ธ The VAR integrity dilemma

The video assistant referee system was introduced into the premier league to eliminate controversial decisions from the game. Instead it has introduced more than I recall seeing before the system was introduced. Here is an example from Nottingham Forest v Burnley last night, both images show potential handballs in the immediate buildup to ‘goals’. Both were reviewed by the same VAR, Darren England. England does not intervene in the first, he sends the referee to review the screen in the second.

    โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ“บ Forest 1 - Burnley 1

The game was evenly balanced, but the result hangs on two identical VAR reviews where the ball strikes a left shoulder in the build-up. The Forest equaliser stands, Burnley’s second does not. Read on for my thoughts โžก๏ธ #utc #burnleyfc Ahead of the game, a point would have been a good result, but on the performance we will be disappointed not to have won. Burnley started very nervously. After the first 15 minutes we took control of the ball, slowed the game, and never really looked threatened.

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ป Replacing Social Media Noise with RSS Feeds

It is far too easy to lose hours and days into social media and news feeds that could otherwise be productive. In this article I talk a little about how I have used RSS feeds this year to avoid most social media and news sites, providing more focus to my reading time. I’ll also talk about where that has not been possible. I talked in an earlier article about how I had begun to use micro.

Wham Stadium - Accrington Stanley โšฝ๏ธ

Vickie surprised me by packing me off to see Accrington Stanley vs Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy. Great wee stadium and club. You can park in a field literally next door for a wee donation to the club. Catering is very similar to the Turf, but the costs are around 40% cheaper. My phone works here, and they sell pot noodles. โšฝ๏ธ Burnley 2 - 5 Tottenham Hotspur

The third of three home games at the beginning of the Premier League Season, none of which we’d have expected to win, though we would have hoped to steal a point or two out of Villa or Spurs - that was not to be. Aspects of the performance were amongst the best we have seen this season so far, others amongst the most frustrating. The BBC call this performance a thrashing, I’d question if they actually watched the game.

    Nottingham Forest 0 - โšฝ๏ธ Burnley

Photographs from our game away at Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup last night. Probably the most noticeable change was the return of Muric between the sticks. Though you always have your heart in your mouth with Muric in goal, it did seem to instill a bit more confidence and decisiveness in defence. In the first half Burnley showed that they really can compete against Premier League teams in a way they failed to do so against Man City and Aston Villa.

๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ TFC Mad Monday on Climber's Gambit

I decided to race with ART on Zwift today rather than with WLVR on indieVelo. If indieVelo has a weakness, much like RGT, it is the weakness of the back of the field - and I wasn’t really in a good place to be racing by myself today. Was also pleased that the autocat let me into D+, even though strictly I sit in Cat C. That meant that in theory, I could be competitive, more so if I hadn’t hung on to the ZSun category C ride for 90 minutes the evening prior.

    Burnley โšฝ๏ธ v โšฝ๏ธโšฝ๏ธโšฝ๏ธ Aston Villa

First game back at Turf Moor in over a fortnight due to the reconstruction works at Kenilworth Road. I got the the Fanzone a little later than I’d have liked, and due to the queues opted to just grab a pie and a mug of bovril from the concourse - which was actually ace. First half was really tough. We generated little from positions out wide, which would culminate in Manuel Benson’s replacement at half time, and were especially vulnerable at right back.

Result is a bit like glightbox gallery - but retaining the image tags. I’ve not really used Shortcuts before, and looking at the construction, not sure I have the patience to build them either. Modifying an existing workflow is straightforward though.
