Today was very much the lull that precedes the week at Newtonmore that is coming up in a weeks time. With the weather looking pretty miserable, and my wishing to force the Marilyn counter along a tad I opted for Place Fell and Hallin Fell along with Darren, Sarah and Rob, who I’d not met before.
The pull up to Boredale Hause felt steeper than it looked on the map, but I think that in part that was due to the crampons and axes in my sac. Starting at about 11:00, we had summited Place Fell by 12:30, and paused momentarily to eat.
Descending from Place Fell, Sarah and Rob opted for the coastal walk back to the coach at Glenriddings, Darren and myself opted for Hallin Fell and the stemer back.
I had miscalculated the amount of ascent on to Hallin Fell, and we raced up it to allow us to make the 15:10 steamer. No sooner had it dawned on me that there was 100m less ascent than I had calculated, we were confronted bt the summit obelisk. The views from this fell were pretty good on a dull and dreary day, so I would imagine that they would be awesome on a better one.
Arriving first back at the coach to get changed, it wasn’t log before we were propping up the bar in the Traveller’s Rest.
