I met up with Paul today for the first time since we arrived back from Ullapool in the summer, and we opted to do a 14 mile circuit in the Berwyns. I have just had rather a shock updating this page though, as I thought that there was at least 1 marilyn on route, maybe 2, but in fact there are none. Must be getting old!!!!
The circuit started and finished in the village of Cynwyd. We had a long road walk up to Moel Fferna, but the weather was quite pleasant at this point, turning as the day wore on. Part way up the track we took to a forest path which we followed to the Bwlch below Moel Fferna. When we arrived on the summit of Moel Fferna the wind picked up a little, and it became quite cold. Already wearing my insyulated jacket, I opted for gloves and balaclava at this point.
Throughout the day the lie of the land deceived us, always believing that the top of the next bump was where we were aiming to go. As we ascended up to Cadair Bronwen, the wind picked up, and gave us a severe buffeting, it was difficult to walk, and even within a couple of metres of the summit I had considered turning back. I was gald to lie down on the summit and let the wind go flying over me.
The weather continued to worsen until we returned to the Bwlch below Pen Bwlch Llandrillo top, and we followed the track from there back into Cynwyd.
I had opted for my winter boots, which may have been a mistake as my knee was very sore on return to the car, although I have felt no repercussions since.
