Had discussed the idea of climbing this weekend with Andy earlier in the week, weather dependent, and until I received a voicemail on Friday night at 10pm, I had thought that it wasn’t going to happen. I left the party I was at around midnight, and headed to the 24 hour ASDA to get some healthy hill food (Mars Bars). After packing the sack for the day, I probably got to sleep at about 0130 for a 0630 start.
Made it to Andy’s in time for an 0730 depart, and headed out to Ogwen via the cafe with a bookshop above it in Llangollen. We did two multipitches on Milestone Buttress – Rowan Route and Pulpit Route, both Diffs, before heading to Little Tryfan to do a couple of routes. The weather was really good all day, and we got in over 1000ft of climbing, Andy over 1500 ft as he twice soloed Crack 1 on Little Tryfan whilst I played about on the boulders nearby.
The day went really well, lets hope its a precursor for the season ahead. Did a bit of gear shopping in Betsy before grabbing a bag of chips and driving home, and watching a perfect lunar eclipse.
