I headed out with some friends today on a big mountain run. Starting out at the Spittal of Glen Muick car park we headed along Glen Muick and up onto Broad Cairn, which seemed to have a series of false tops prior to reaching the actual summit. We then headed quite quickly onto Cairn Bannoch and onto Fafernie before making the decision to add Tolmount to our round, adding an extra 4 miles onto the overall tally before returning to Fafernie where we split into two groups, one returning the way we had come down to the cars, and an advance party continuing around the horseshoe. We headed up quite quickly to Carn an t-Sagairt Mor and dropped onto the bealach beyond where we had lunch next to an airplane wing. We then contoured below the sister top picking up the path to Carn a’ Choire Bhoidheach which we would have missed but for the rather obvious baggers path heading up it. We had crossed several snow bands on the way which had sapped the energy from my legs somewhat. We then rounded off the day with an ascent of Cac Carn Beag and Cac Carn Mor on Lochnagar. I found the descent past Meikle Pap very loose and stony, and therefore painful and barely runnable for much of the way, and did not recover as much pace as I expected. The weather was warm, the ground largely dry although I did soak my feet in a couple of bogs and in a burn at the end. I am quite tired now, so I will round this article off here, save for a few photographs below and the trip statistics:
