I thought after a 6 month hiatus, that I’d probably better update my blog. The year has been a bit of a disappointment, largely as a result of a series of knee and ankle injures which all seem to have resulted from an over tight ITB. Moral of the story: Stretch Lee you ejit.
I have been training pretty solidly now since the start of August, largely due to the fine work that Victoria at Aboyne Physiotherapy has been doing to my decrepit limbs on a regular basis, including some good work on my peroneous brevis and longus tendons which flared up after 21 miles in tarmac in my trail shoes last week. Hmmm, needed more cushioning methinks.
I’m looking good for the Glen Ogle 33 at the start of November, and I have also been very lucky to secure a ballot place in the 2013 London Marathon. To some extent it moves about my plans for next year somewhat, as it makes the Highland Fling race impractical and the Glasgow Edinburgh Double Marathon imprudent, just a fortnight before.
So in short, I need to pick and choose my races with a view to getting into the West Highland Way Race in 2014, and applying for UTMB the following year.
I’ve just been for a wee run on the Tarland Way today, put in a fairly brisk 5 miles in 44 minutes on the hilly bit of the track. I also got slightly lost, heading 1/2 mile up a hill I’d no need to be on. Thought the view looked a bit different. Och well, will be out tomorrow for around 2 hours in addition to doing some work on my LLB at RGU, and getting the house ready for our visitors this weekend.
